About Lyndon LivingstoneLyndon ‘Stonez’ Livingstone, and his ‘Razorshop’ production studio, are best known for inventing a style of Caribbean house remix that set the standard for djs and producers since. DJ Lyndon took local artists’ biggest ‘soca’ hits, a form of Trinidadian party music heavy on drums, horns, iron and 120-170bpm energy, and fused a cappella renditions with drum machines, synths, dj live mixing skills, editing software and sample kits. The results were remixes and "road mixes" (extended mixes of songs specifically played ‘on the road’ over the two days of Carnival) unlike anything seen in the region before. The meeting of soca music and electronica was an unanticipated but perfect fit, but he didn't just stop there. His remixes gave soca music a fresh pulse outside of Carnival. He internationalized his style of remixing to jumping and waving masses of Caribbean peoples, from the streets of Port of Spain, Trinidad's capital, to chic multi-level nightclubs in New York, Toronto, London, Chicago and Miami. On it's own, electronica has never really been that popular in Trinidad, but Lyndon created a genre that defies expectations of what Caribbean music is, and how and where it fits in and contends on the international music scene. While his Razorshop production house creates award winning sounds of all genres, as a DJ, Lyndon’s set is all about live mixing of funky, progressive and tech house with local rhythms, dialects and vocals, and instrumental samples. These sets inspired an entire generation of younger Caribbean house music DJs to mix with the same tightly blended, eclectic style that made his sessions a journey through unexpected cuts and sounds from beginning to end. DJ Lyndon, also known in the industry as ‘Stonez’, has produced remixes or completed post production edits for many of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean's major talents, including: David Rudder, Machel Montano, Mungal Patessar, the late Andre Tanker, 3 Canal, Fay Ann Lyons, Sherwin Winchester and Destra Garcia. Internationally, Lyndon has worked on releases featuring Wyclef Jean (Haiti), Doug E Fresh, Jita (USA) and TOK & Mr. Vegas (Jamaica) to name a few. His work as producer on Canadian based group Kobotown’s first album 'Independence' earned them Indie, Canadian Folk Music and International Folk Alliance award nominations in 2007, and very positive reviews from the international music press. Coming from humble beginnings, Lyndon began working in Trinidad’s foremost record shop, Rhyners, when he nine years old. Being surrounded by a full array of musical eras and genres gave him the encyclopaedic knowledge of music he’s known for today. His began building his name as a teenage mix tape master, practising cuts inspired by Carlos Berrios and Omar Santana, and learning to scratch on turntables, once owned by Grandmaster Flash, when he was seventeen. He paid his dues as a resident DJ in Trinidad's top clubs throughout the 90's, added sound engineering to his skills and fine tuned his timing and sound design working behind the scenes in Trinidad’s theatre and fashion world. The transition from DJ to producer came in his early twenties, when he began to work with the famous Engine Room production house in Trinidad. He went on to head a production studio at the country's top radio station (96.1WEFM), bringing his unique take to the label. ‘Razorshop’, Lyndon’s editing and production house, has produced music for award winning radio and television campaigns for Coca Cola, Digicel, Nissan, Heineken, and Angostura Bitters, among many others. He has won four Addy Awards to date. Lyndon’s Caribbean following is based on his love for editing, production and mixing, felt by all grooving in all his sessions. His fans and protégés also love him because he’s remained humble and generous with his experience and knowledge, and he still continues to be the life of a party. Whether smoothing things down in the chill out sessions he’s developed into an art or destroying his crowd with a flick of a filter, DJ Lyndon’s philosophy underscores it all. Music is about love for sound and DJing is about sharing that love with anyone who wants to hear. Coming from the Caribbean, where the inversion of rules and musical invention are part of national culture, Lyndon brings the natural ability to create from whatever he has to work with. King of his crowd when it comes to his sessions, DJ Lyndon’s sets show a master of technology and communication, the best mix for any possibility on a dancefloor. Followers
